St. Paul, MN ? Visitors to the Education Minnesota booth will be treated to interesting new education information and a new freebie at this year?s Minnesota State Fair.
The Minnesota Kindergarten Association and student teachers in the Education Minnesota Student Program join the lineup of educators in 2011, and visitors can receive a free I Raise my Hand fan-on-a-stick. That?s in addition to our free personalized calendar, where fairgoers get their pictures taken and immediately printed on a 2011-12 calendar. the personalized calendar is a huge hit; we create 1,200 of them daily. Many visitors tell us they?ve received one every year since we started the giveaway in 2000.
If you?d like to test your brain power, display your musical talent, learn about interesting topics, win prizes or meet some of the best teachers in Minnesota history, a visit to the Education Minnesota booth should be on your State Fair list. the Education Minnesota booth is located near the entrance to the Education Building, and is open from 9 every morning until 9 every evening.

Thursday, Aug. 25: School Nurses of MinnesotaGood health is critical to student learning. Parents and students can learn more about essential health on the very first day of this year?s State Fair. School Nurses of Minnesota make learning about health fun and interesting by playing ?Health Wheel of Fortune? and they are available to answer questions about all kinds of health issues, including nutrition, immunizations and many others.
Friday, Aug. 26: Minnesota Kindergarten Association (new)We?re thrilled to be joined this year by the Minnesota Kindergarten Association. Studies show there?s a direct link between quality kindergarten and success later in school. Volunteers from the MKA will be on hand to talk with parents about the things to look for in a successful kindergarten class, as well as what parents can do at home to make sure their children get the right start to a lifetime of learning.
Saturday, Aug. 27: Art Educators of MinnesotaArt encourages students to exercise their imagination and improves their innovative abilities. and recent studies show that children who are engaged in the arts at any early age are more likely to do well in college, build successful careers and participate in the communities in which they live. Volunteers from Art Educators of Minnesota can provide parents with all kinds of helpful information about art education and how to unleash their child?s healthy imagination.
Sunday, Aug. 28: Minnesota Music EducatorsThis is one of our most popular days of the entire State Fair! Minnesota Music Educators bring musical instruments into the booth, where students can try each one. Parents can ask questions of our music experts, and students get hands-on demonstrations of their favorite instruments. It?s educational, fun and very visual. Music educators are at the booth from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Monday, Aug. 29: Educational Support ProfessionalsESPs, or educational support professionals, are indispensable members of Minnesota?s system of public education. Visitors learn more about what ESPs provide our students by playing ESP Jeopardy, where children pick a category and guess the correct ESP job description for that question. Children win back-to-school prizes like crayons, pencils and erasers.
Tuesday, Aug. 30: Teacher of the YearMinnesota has some of the best teachers in America. Visitors get to meet several of them, including 2011 Teacher of the Year Katy Smith. She is the first Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) educator to become Minnesota Teacher of the Year. Smith and previous award winners will be available to answer all types of education questions. Information is also available about the Teacher of the Year program, and how to nominate your favorite teacher.
Wednesday, Aug. 31: Math League of MinnesotaThe Minnesota State Fair may be the only place where you can find math problems on a stick! the Math League of Minnesota will be on hand to help students and parents with information about how to be better at math. Visitors can test their math skills on the same types of problems students face at math meets. Demonstrations and prizes will be available.
Thursday, Sept. 1: Minnesota Reading AssociationEducators often say that children spend grades 1 through 3 learning to read, and every grade after that ?reading to learn.? Volunteers from the Minnesota Reading Association will present ?poetry on a stick,? offer advice and answer questions about improving reading skills and habits for students of all ages.
Friday, Sept. 2: Minnesota Teachers of English to Speakers of other LanguagesMany people don?t realize that many dozens of languages are spoken in our schools. Minnesota Teachers of English to Speakers of other Languages will offer interesting information about language diversity and world languages, and answer trivia questions taken from the U.S. Citizenship Test. Improve your knowledge of the world and test your English skills with these language professionals.
Saturday, Sept. 3: Education Minnesota Student Program (new)High school or college students considering a career in teaching can find a wide variety of information at our booth this year. the Education Minnesota Student Program (EMSP) is a pre-service teacher organization, with membership available to college students who are studying to become teachers. the program offers leadership opportunities to college students at both the state and national levels. Student members will be on hand to answer questions from anyone who wants to be Minnesota?s next great teacher!
Sunday, Sept. 4: Family and Consumer Sciences EducationThis is a great chance for parents to learn about all kinds of family living topics. Professionals in Family and Consumer Sciences Education will be available to explain the federal government?s recently-changed nutrition guidelines, which replace the food pyramid with a food plate. Visitors can play ?Are you Smarter Than a FACS Student? and learn about financial literacy, consumerism, child development and many other family issues.
Monday, Sept. 5: Minnesota School Counselors AssociationSchool counselors play a critical role in guiding students through some of the difficult decisions they face in school and life. Meet volunteer counselors who can offer advice and ideas for students and parents alike.
