CANBERRA, Australia ? A cardiologist says Australia's frenetic foreign minister will be grounded for two months while he recovers from successful open heart surgery.
Kevin Rudd has been dubbed "Minister for Foreign Air Fares" in the media because of his hectic schedule. He underwent an aortic valve transplant on Monday in a hospital in his hometown of Brisbane.
It is the 53-year-old former prime minister's second valve transplant. The first took place in 1993.
Cardiologist Malcolm Davison told reporters Monday's four-hour operation was a success.
Davison says Rudd is expected to a complete recovery in eight weeks.
